Cross-border ecommerce: how to sell on Amazon Seller Central?

Amazon Seller Central is currently one of the simplest and safest ways to market products on cross-border ecommerce. Millions of consumers access Amazon every day searching for products sold by both individuals and cross-border ecommerce businesses. As soon as products are registered by merchants, they are added to one of the marketplace’s 30 categories and can be purchased by customers from around the world. Accessing a massive consumer base and associating your products with an ecommerce giant are not the only advantages of being part of Amazon Seller Central. In additional to being a leading international marketplace, Amazon also offers possibilities for developing businesses of all sizes. See below three good reasons to opt for this channel:

 

Cross-border ecommerce for small and medium enterprises

 

Irrespective of the number of products to market, small and medium enterprises based in Brazil can access resources that leverage their operation’s development.

 

FBA – Amazon’s Logistics

 

Sellers with a corporate tax ID (CNPJ) and active registration with the State Treasury Department for issuing electronic invoices and opting for the simple tax regime (Simples Nacional, with address and State Registration in the Brazilian states of São Paulo, Paraná or Rio de Janeiro) or normal tax regime (Regime Normal, being an invited seller with a State Registration in São Paulo) can participate in Fulfillment by Amazon, a logistics program that enables shipment of products to Amazon’s Distribution Center, which handles deliveries and after-sales services.

 

Seller Rewards Program

 

In addition to marketing products to consumers worldwide, sellers that use Amazon Seller Central also can participate in the Seller Rewards Program. Amazon suggests tasks that, when performed, can generate cash rewards, while driving best practices for boosting sales and mastering marketplace tools. 

 

Amazon Seller Central: onboarding steps

 

For your store to be part of Amazon Seller Brazil, you must have an international bank account, in which the balance of payments for purchases will be deposited every 14 days. After that, you are only five steps away from selling in the international marketplace:

 

  1. Complete the onboarding process on Amazon by registering data such as name, email and telephone of the account holder, business address, corporate name and DBA name of the store and tax ID (CPF or CNPJ), as well as data for an international bank account and a credit or debit card of the account holder;
  2. Upload the product your store will sell by selecting the most appropriate categories. Note that some categories are restricted to foreign sellers, but you may obtain authorization.  What’s most important is to ensure the best possible description of each product;
  3. Merchants that opt for FBA service may send the products to Amazon’s distribution center, which will be responsible for shipping them upon each purchase. Prime clients may purchase products with free shipping;
  4. End consumers then purchase your products using their preferred payment method and currency;
  5. Amazon delivers the products sold to end consumers and, after two weeks, deposits the balance of the sales into your international bank account.

 

Cross-border ecommerce: advantages for sellers and consumers

 

Now that you know how Amazon Seller Central works, Brazil is now yet another country option in which your store can operate. Cross-border ecommerce increases alternatives for consumers, who gain more options, while expanding the horizons of merchants. Note that, in 2022, 72% of Brazilians shopped on international websites at least once. This is a global trend: China, for example, approved the creation of more than 33 pilot zones for cross-border ecommerce in regions where commerce is less developed.
