In 2022, Brazilian cross-border e-commerce also showed that it is here to stay: 72% of the Brazilians interviewed by NielsenIQ Ebit for the Webshoppers 47 report said they shopped on international websites at least once last year.

The following categories registered the highest growth in orders in 2022:
Perfumes and Cosmetics: accounted for 12% of all e-commerce orders, up 22.5% from 2021.
Home and Décor: despite losing 1 percentage point between 2021 and 2022, this category also represented 12% of sales.
Food and Beverages: registering the highest growth among categories (82.8%) between 2021 and 2022, these items represented 11% of online sales.
Health: a 16.9% jump took this category to the fourth place in the ranking of orders, accounting for 9% of the total.
Home appliances: despite declining 6.6% between 2021 and 2022, online sales of home appliances represented 8% of the total.
Fashion & Accessories, Sports & Leisure, Babies & Co., Telephony, IT, Electronics, and Construction & Tools completed the ranking.
Cross-border e-commerce posts record growth in 2022
Brazilian consumers have never been so enthusiastic about shopping on international websites. The number of Brazilians who purchased online in 2022 totaled over 108 million, growing 24%. The percentage of cross-border e-commerce shoppers in 2022 was 72%. This was the highest percentage since the Webshoppers report started studying the behavior of Brazilian consumers in online commerce, back in 2013.
Even the year 2020, when physical distancing drove e-commerce as a whole, was surpassed by 2022 by 1 percentage point. To have an idea of the expansion of this market, 48% of the Brazilians purchased shopped in cross-border e-commerce in 2017.
Regarding the frequency with which cross-border retail purchases are made, the group that registered the highest growth last year (2021 vs. 2022) is made up of consumers who made more than 10 purchases in international e-commerce stores. The increase was 4%, from 11% in 2021 to 15% in 2022.
